Namaste and Welcome!
Hello, I’m Pramod Sharma, a hobby artist from Hyderabad, India, and the face behind Pramod’s Art Studio.
My journey with art began in the early 1990s, when I picked up a piece of chalk and started scribbling across the verandah floor. My mother still recalls one of those doodles looking suspiciously like a bird, perhaps that was the very first flight my imagination ever took. Around the same time, my father would perch me on the seat of his 'Chetak 'scooter at Palam Airport, right by the fence, so we could watch aircraft come in to land. Looking back, I think that’s where the love for aviation and art quietly fused.
As a child, I would sketch aircraft from magazines and newspapers, fascinated by their shape, movement and power. In 1997, one of those aviation drawings was published in my school’s annual magazine, a small moment, but one that made me feel jubilant, that further strengthened my passion for aluminium birds.
For me, illustrating and painting have never been about chasing likes or shares online. They are about the quiet satisfaction of coaxing life onto a surface with colours, lines and shades.
I am entirely self-taught and work primarily with acrylics and watercolours, though coloured pencils and oil pastels often find their way into my hands too. Canvas, A3 and A4 sheets are my favourite companions, as they give me the space to explore detail. And tucked in my bag is a trusty little A5 sketchbook, where I paint and draw almost daily, a small ritual that keeps me grounded.
While aviation art remains closest to my heart, I also enjoy creating portraits, some of which have found homes with friends and collectors. Each piece I make is a step back into that childhood wonder, a reminder of chalk birds on verandah floors and aircraft landing against the Delhi sky.
Behind The Wings
What Makes My Art Unique?
I’m particular about perspectives, focusing on lateral/side and 2D renditions with the highest accuracy. Minute details—proportions, structures, textures—are key. Once the outlines are done, half the marathon is over; the rest is all about colours and shadows.
For human figures, I estimate proportions, sketch light outlines, and let them sit for a day or two. I take my time because small details matter, and I’m more into my art than flaunting it on Instagram.
My technique starts with carefully studying the reference photo or subject. I tend to keep backgrounds minimal, just a simple backdrop and a touch of shadow to let the main subject shine. If I do add a background, it’s light and subtle, never stealing the spotlight.
For family portraits, on paper, I love using a vibrant background colour to make the faces pop. It’s all about balance, keeping things lively without going over the top.
Technique & Approach
I quite enjoy working on a specialised mixed media sheet—A3 or A4 ultra-bond paper, mainly with watercolours, coloured pencils, and oil pastels. That said, canvas certainly makes a bold statement, though paper still takes the crown. The final choice, of course, depends on the client’s preference, the atmosphere, and a few other bits and bobs.
That being said, my all-time favourite is working in my specially manufactured A5 sketchbook, packed with a myriad of themes: lighthouses, people, urban sketches—you name it.
